Thinking Flexibly

We are learning to think flexibly! This means we are trying to think of things in a different way and to be open to new ideas and ways of doing things. Here we are modeling what it may look like to take our time and to consider other options.

Comparing and Contrasting

We are learning all about comparing and contrasting books! To end our unit, we read three books that belong to a series of books about a character named Alexander. We read, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day." We then read two more books in the series "Alexander Who's Not (Do you hear me? I mean it!) Going to Move" and "Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday."

We collaborated in groups with a group leader, recorder, and presenter to make a poster comparing and contrasting the two books in this series.

We compared and contrasted the main characters, the setting, and the plot. Here are some of our findings:

-Alexander does NOT manage his impulsivity in both the books!
-Alexander always has a problem in the stories.
-The author uses repetition in her stories.
-The settings change in both the stories.

Tomorrow, we will present our posters using strong comparing/contrasting vocabulary. Please check Seesaw for those videos!

Habits of Mind

We are learning about the Habits of Mind! We started with managing impulsivity and learning to stop, think, and then act.

Here we are showing what managing our impulses looks like:
Before we act we are: stopping, thinking, and taking the time to breath.

Point of View

We learned all about point of view! First, we read The Three Little Pigs, which was told from the pig's point of view. Then, we read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, which was told from the wolf's point of view. Last, we chose whose point of view we believed and created a "Wanted" or "Set Free" poster for the wolf  and wrote from the perspective of the character we chose. The majority of us sided with the wolf!
