Third Quarter Conference

Please sign-up to meet with me to discuss your child's growth and progress. If you do not see a date/time that would work for you, please contact me to schedule one:   http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084fa4af2ca1f85-third1

Seesaw App

In quarter 3 we created a "learning journal" with an app called Seesaw and your child has their own learning journal of work!

If you would like to join Seesaw, you can see the work they have done this quarter. It includes pictures of their work and videos of projects they have completed. To access it, please click on https://app.seesaw.me/s/217-080-979 to sign up.  We will continue to add more items throughout the year, but this is what we have been working on in quarter 3!

The kids have taken the pictures/videos themselves (mostly) and I "approve" them before they get published. I hope you enjoy! It is completely up to you, but my hope was you can look at the pictures/videos with your child and talk about the work they did.

Arrays

We will be learning about arrays this week in math. We will create arrays to help us with repeated addition problems, which is a precursor to multiplication. We will first learn about how to sort items into rows and columns, then how to count those items using repeated addition. The link below is one I will show in class and is one that is helpful to explain how we will use arrays: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=arrays+video&&view=detail&mid=D02C82729A71EAD504E1D02C82729A71EAD504E1&FORM=VRDGAR

Valentine's Day Exchange

On 2/10 (which is also our track-out day) we will be having a Valentine's Day Exchange!  Please bring in an item that your child can use to hold all the goodies they receive (a shoe box, bag, etc.). You can also decorate your box/bag, if you would like.

If you are interested in bringing in Valentine's Day cards, candy, goodies, etc. as part of this exchange, please note:

-We have 18 children. I  may have told some parents we had 17 children, but we just received a new student today.

-Please don’t personalize any of the items you bring in. For example: To Amy, from John. It’s easier for distribution if the items are not labeled with the individual names of each child.

-However, please feel free to write whom the items are from! For example: From John.

Thank you for your help and please let me know if you have any questions.

Make-Up Days

I hope your children are enjoying their snow/ice days off. I miss them and am ready to get back to class! Please see below for make-up information and optional suggestions to do...this is the same information that was sent via the Class Dojo messages.

Our make-up days will be:
1/14
1/21
4/1

These will be half days and breakfast and lunch will not be served. Please have your child bring in a snack and I will bring in a snack too for the class. :)

Some suggested activities your child may want to work on, in addition to the homework that was sent home last week in anticipation of school closing:

-count coins
-work on their Social Studies project for our class store (2/3 is the day it is due)
-decorate a box for our Valentine's Day Exchange (this will be on 2/10 and more information to come)
-Log on to: Achieve 3000, TenMarks, SumDog, or other websites off of our class Symbaloo page: http://edu.symbaloo.com/mix/secondgradewebsites7
-ENJOY your time off!

Hope to see you soon!
