Candy Corn Tower Challenge

We were challenged to construct a tower using only candy corn and toothpicks. We learned that it takes multiple tries sometimes to get it right as we explored the best way to get our towers tall!

Gummy Bear Experiment

As scientists, we created our hypothesis as to what will happen when we put gummy bears in cups of various liquids for 24 hours. We made our predictions based on what we knew about the liquids and what the gummy bears looked liked, felt like, smelled like, and tasted like before we put them in.

We then put them in water, salt water, vinegar, and baking soda (the only non-liquid). Here we are observing them right after we put them in their cups.

Day one: observing the gummy bears:

24 Hours Later:  A lot has changed for our gummy bears!
The baking soda gummy bear stayed the same, but felt harder.
The water gummy bear got really big!

The vinegar gummy bear dissolved.

The salt water gummy bear expanded.

We Had the Whole Playground to Ourselves!

We earned an extra recess today and had the entire playground to ourselves!

Field Trips

Field Trip forms went out on 10/7 and information was sent in my weekly email.  Please check your child's folder and review them all carefully. When you fill out the permission forms, please be sure to fill out both sides (front and back). Permission forms and money are due 11/28/16. That is over our track out, so it would be optional to get the forms and money in by 11/10 for our track.

We are going to Historic Oak View County Park on 4/25 and volunteers are strongly encouraged. We will have an in school field trip where Science is Fun comes to our school and we do sound experiments. This will be on 3/31. Chaperones are not needed for this field trip.

More information will come as the dates get closer, our first step is filling out the permission slip forms and payments.

Please let me know if you have any questions at this time!

A Wednesday Afternoon...

Practicing place value and scanning the QR Codes to see if we are correct.

Seeing which numbers are greater than, less than, or equal too..with pumpkins.

Sorting odd and even numbers.

Thinking like a scientist and wondering if our hypothesis will be correct. We predicted what would happen when we put a solid soap into the microwave.

We were surprised to see that the soap expanded! We will be writing our conclusions tomorrow.

Historians

We learned that artifacts are items from the past that help us to better understand the past. We brought in an item from our life that is important to us and pretended it was an "artifact" of someone from the past. We then became historians for the day and explored the different artifacts our classmates brought in and tried to see what that artifact told us about the owner.
