North Carolina Museum of Science Field Trip

Our field trip is fast approaching!  Our field trip is scheduled for April 8^th, 2016.  We will be taking a school bus to the North Carolina Museum of Science in Raleigh. We will leave school promptly at 9:30am.  We are not allowed to wait for students who do not arrive at school by 9:30am, so please get to school by then, especially if they plan to eat breakfast at school. We will return to Banks Road at 1:30pm and have lunch at the school at 1:45pm. Children will have lunch how they normally do. We are asking that you not send additional money with students for trips to the gift shop or “extras” while at the museum.  Chaperones have received separate information from me. If you are chaperoning and I have not contacted you, please let me know. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or concerns you may have! 

Pizza Party

How do we celebrate a successful first week back from track out? We celebrate with a well-deserved pizza party we earned from Achieve 3000!

Banks Road's Second Art Night!

Come One, Come All to Banks Road's Second Art Night!!

March 17th 5:30pm-7:30pm

Explore galleries comprised of artwork from every class in the school! 

At 6pm, join us in the multi-purpose room for storytelling and entertainment from The Beast!!

Bring families and friends to see what our Banks Road students have been working on. Let's celebrate and experience together the creativity, expression, communication and learning that art inspires! 

Seussical the Musical

Second grade is doing a collaborative production with the Kindergarten and First Grade students! Second grade will be performing "Seussical the Musical" on March 23rd at 2:45. Mrs. LaPlace is requesting that students wear Dr. Seuss hats and attire such as solid red shirts, solid white shirts, or red and white striped shirts. Any donations of shirts, Dr. Seuss attire, props or hats would be greatly appreciated as well!

Math Centers

I'm excited to share we will be trying something new in math. We will be doing math centers. Here is how it will work. 

There will be 3 rotations each day: 

1-Intruction:I will meet with groups of 6-7 to provide daily instruction. 

2-Technology: The class will log-in to their Sumdog Account (they can also access this at home). They will play math "games." They will be enjoying the games, and as they answer the math questions that relate to the skills we are learning, the program will begin to personalize the questions to each child and focus on the skills that they need. I can also access their data and will be able to target the skills they need more practice with in the instruction group. They also will receive virtual coins for achievements and they can turn in to change their Sumdog avatars and community.

3-Practice Work-The class will be working on concepts already taught as well as reviewing the current lesson.

Pizza Party!

Our class worked so hard to win a Pizza Party for completing Achieve 3,000 articles before track out! We will have this party this Friday, 3/11. Your child does not need to bring a lunch, if they like pizza! If they do not like pizza, please provide them with an alternative and they can still buy lunch if they would like too. Please do provide them with a drink and snack.

Class Dojos

We are going to try a new reward system with Class Dojos! You should have received an email inviting you to join over track-out and a note went home today. Your child will receive rewards even if you choose to not sign-up, but if you do sign-up, you will get to see the rewards in real time. The class will earn rewards based on good behavior that they can trade in for class prizes (eat in the classroom, write in pen for the day, prize box, etc.) It is also another tool that you can use to communicate with myself.
